I just wanted to post and express insane gratitude. It's so cool that people are ordering these CDs. It's so cool that folks are excited about physical media. It's so cool that, with your support, I'm finding a way to become a middle class artist.

I'm in the middle of writing an essay about physical media and how I'm making money from my business of making music, but I am not in the music business.

So far, no label, no publishing, no nothing. Maybe that'll change if someone makes me an offer I can't refuse (lots of money and/or horse head in the bed) - but for now it's amazing keeping the cash flow in the family and cutting out the middle men. 

The deadline for pre-orders closes July 19th and if you know anyone who would be interested in supporting an independant artitst and procuring a one of a kind treasure that they can show off to make themselves cooler... Please send them the link! 

I don't want to make music for everyone. I want to make music for the folks who want to listen to it, so I want to make sure I find them!

Either the conversation is too boring or slow or feels just pointless. However, these questions always get the ball rolling in a fun direction.

I am hand burning and hand assembling special CDs of my album with additional intro and outro tracks that feel like director's commentary. There are liner notes and collages and whimsy.

I am currently working on an essay (exciting! vulnerable! ew! school! but also! maybe fun??) about my experience making money off of music without participating in the music business. 

I've never done something like this! Write and publish a sincere essay that I have thought about and put my whole heart behind. Scary!

I'm going to publish the article and then send it to music reporting outlets to pitch them writing about the CDs and my experience coming from one tumultuous industry to another. (Acting to music, baby!)

I'm just sharing that to share it. I'm nervous. It reminds me of writing an essay for school and wondering if my classmates are gonna call me stupid or not. (They never did, this is a "completely in my head" thought)

So... I'm looking forward to that!

UPCOMING SHOW

I will be performing 30 minutes of music with Mitch on Saturday at El Cid at 8pm! I'm opening for Geordie Kieffer so the night will be absolutely bat shit. Also Mitch will no only be playing with me, but he will also be playing with Geordie. So... this is gonna be a big night for the Mitch Heads out there.

I'm planning on performing some NEW, NEVER BEFORE HEARD SONGS, so uhhhh yeah I am very very excited.

MERCH EXPERIMENTATION 

It always feel a little odd to promote yourself, but especially so when the world is feeding you crazy horrors right to your phone. Do I post about every awful thing? Do I absolutely never post any awful thing? Do I post anything? Ever? Should I go to the mountains and chuck my phone into the abyss?

After careful consideration I have decided on a less drastic answer. 

I will be selling a brand new collage print and all the proceeds will go to this GoFundMe for 14 families affected by the LA ICE raids. 

I'm stoked. It feels really good on my nervous system to make art (positive feeling) that helps donate money (positive feeling) because of a horrible occurance (negative feeling.) With all of them together, the positive wins! Another day away from the mountain and the abyss!

I'm also going to be selling prints of my collages from my 30 day challenge. Do you have any favorites you'd like to see available?

Lastly and honestly, most excitingly, I am putting a finger on something that has been calling to me for a while now. 

I think it's easier than ever to make things that are "good" so therefore... good is not interesting to me. Good is boring and safe and conservative. Good is neutral. Good is death. Good must be avoided at all costs. 

I want bad. I want mistakes and fuck ups and total fuckery. I want joy for joy sake, everything else be damned!

So... I will be releasing a super rough demo cut of an 11 minute track that holds three new songs that Mitch and I stumbled and pummeled through last night. 

We would talk for an hour, smoke a spliff bowl, cry about something beautiful, start jamming, and then all of a sudden we're hitting record and letting whatever happens happen. 

We started at 6pm and we're calling it quits at 12:30am. 

I don't know what will happen EXACTLY, but these days I'm just trying to move faster than I can doubt myself. Apparently that means I have to move like fucking lightning. So. Here we go!
